bag parade, part two

where: a junk-shop in Mainz
when: two weeks ago

Saw it a few weeks ago, left it behind but couldn´t resist it at my second visit. Wonder which old lady (or man?) owned it before...not sure what I will use it for but the pattern and fabric where just to great.

on the road 4

The train from Mainz to Wiesbaden, teenagers are on their way home from a (Primark) shopping trip to Frankfurt.

girl: "It costs so much money to get divorced again. So I don´t wanna get married at all and then, if he has an affair, I just take the money I would otherwise spend on lawyers and go shopping!"

children (or even teenagers) and fools sometimes speak the truth...;-)

My very first Knockwurst von OPI.

bag parade, part one

Julia suggested yesterday that I could present my vast hand bag collection on the blog and, of course, I liked the idea. So here is part one...many will follow...one every saturday...how is the saying going?! "Be careful what you wish for" :-)

where: Frankfurt, on sale
when: 2005 (remember it so clearly as we bought it a day after Rudolf Mooshammer was murdered)

One of three very large Longchamp Pliages I own. Don´t use it very often due to it´s size but it´s handy when I need a lot of space (e.g. for hiding my coat when in theatre or carrying lots of camera stuff). I like the unusual muted coral colour.

Friday 22 March 2013

on the road 3

Friday afternoon, a bus in Wiesbaden...two girls, I guess around 15-16 years old, sit behind me.

"So who are you going out with???"
"I don´t wanna say"
"Oh come ooon...I told you too!"
"Still don´t wanna say"
"Is he in our class?"
"No"
"So you can tell me cause I don´t know him anyway!"
"You do know him"
"Then say it!"
"No"
"Oh please!!!"
"No, it´s embarrassing"
"But I´m sure I don´t know him"
"You do...I don´t want to say"
"You have to tell me!"
"No, by the way - you have to get off the bus at this stop"
"I happily stay here with you longer until you tell me his name"
"No"
"Oh come ooooon..."
"Noohoo...you are annoying"
"Tell me!"
"No"

Sometimes being 30+ feels like a real blessing...

Happy World Poetry Day :-)

What it is

It is nonsense
says reason
It is what it is
says love

It is misfortune
says calculation
It is nothing but pain
says fear
It is hopeless
says insight
It is what it is
says love

It is ridiculous
says pride
It is careless
says caution
It is impossible
says experience
It is what it is
says love

Uniqlo x Celia Birtwell

just a quick note that the Celia Birtwell collection for Uniqlo has launched earlier today.
Again a great selection of very affordable (and usually good quality) clothes with her trademark prints.
As prints are here to stay and seem to play a bigger role in fashion again you should better hurry up as some bits are already selling out.

I think I will be a good girl this time and wait if I can pick something up in store next week. Enough that I went crazy and had to order all the last times...;-)

Hope I can still get this lovely stole:

PS: Unfortunately Uniqlo doesn't ship outside the UK yet :-/

A magazine that is wonderful to look at and I´m sure I will try some of the recipes soon too!
Thank you very much :-)

Yesterday the middle of Germany was hit by the worst snowfall this whole winter - the busses stopped for a while during the morning, the trains were late, the airport was shut in the afternoon.
It seems to be absolutely typical for me that I have a ticket for a concert in the evening in Frankfurt on days like that, 35km away, booked long ago on a warm and sunny day....
The majority of the day I spent checking Facebook, the bus and the venue´s website in order to find out if I would stand a chance to reach my destination. I hate this time-wasting and end up in exactly this "should I? shouldn't I??" situation way to often... a luxury problem, I know, but a very annoying one.
Anyway, I have never been someone to give up my plans quickly so I ventured out and, to my own surprise, arrived in Frankfurt on time! Yeehaa!

The reason: the concert of the wonderful Anna Depenbusch (not the most catchy of names I admit).
The audience was well behaved, I had a good view of the stage from my (cheap) seat and I was happy to dry my soaked boots for a while.

The concert itself was nice, very nice. I just love Anna´s strong and clear voice and adore especially her ballads.
Maybe it was a bit short and the moderations between the songs sounded a bit too rehearsed and uninspired but still: I enjoyed it a lot.

But have a look and listen for yourself:

my absolute favourite song that unfortunately didn´t get performed ;-(

 another favourite...

and a more happy and summery song, perfect in the current weather.

All in all a brilliant evening braving the elements and enjoying a great female singer/songwriter!

Ronnefeldt

Ronnefeldt

Kurfürstenplatz 38
MyZeil
60486 Frankfurt
Germany

The only flagship store of the famous Ronnefeldt teas that I know of. Huge choice, pleasant interior design with the chance to sit down and order a tea too.
I love coming here not only because they store some of my absolute favourite loose teas ( e.g. Morgentau, Kokosnüsschen, Vanilla Chai ) but because the staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful. Never left so far without a free cup of tea to test, a sample to take home with me and the happy feeling great customer service leaves behind. My absolute favourite tea shop.

Pollock´s Toy Shop

Pollock´s Toy Shop

44 The Market
Covent Garden
London
WC2E 8RF

Charming little toy shop hidden on the first floor in the the old market halls of Covent Garden. A magical place that seems to have fallen out of time completely. Puppets, beautiful books and, most important for me as I love and collect them, toy theatres! Once you have seen this you never wanna see a Toys´R´Us again in your life, I promise.
The perfect place to escape reality and to feel like a child again. Enchanting.
They have a museum as well in Fitzrovia which I plan to visit next time.

Stairways to Heaven

Autor: Dagmar Borrmann, Ernst August Klötzke, Tobias Materna, Ole Puppe
Theater: Staatstheater Wiesbaden
Regie: Tobias Materna
Premiere: 31.05.2008

leaning

Sometimes when you wander around England you can´t help it, you will be forced to look at this:

(it´s not my own photo...I can hardly stop someone on the street asking for a photo simply cause "The way you wear your boots just looks so extraordinarily bad")

So, sometimes I want to send at least 50% of the British ladies (the men probably too - I just don´t seem to look at their feet that much) to some ballet classes...or to the orthopaedic specialist.
Your soles are made for walking - not the left or the right edge of your feet. That´s why when it comes to shoes they have a hard wearing sole at the bottom and are usually weaker on the sides.Simples.
How can you put those boots into your hall or cupboard after wearing without looking at them thinking that something is seriously wrong?!? Don´t get it.

edit: OK, this phenomenon is not limited to the UK and unfortunately can be spotted in e.g. Germany and France too but trust me, I have never seen it so often as on the island!

Vous les femmes

sorry for all the cat content but this one is just too gorgeous...what I learned through it? Never watch funny videos with a full bladder ;-)

Tschick

Autor: Wolfgang Herrndorf
Theater: Staatstheater Wiesbaden
Premiere: 10.11.2012
Regie: Dirk Schirdewahn

Wow!

From Russia with Love

director: Terence Young
year: 1963
with: Sean Connery, Pedro Armendáriz, Lotte Lenya, Robert Shaw, etc.

story: "James Bond willingly falls into an assassination ploy involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by SPECTRE"

what I liked: I have to admit that it certainly has a certain something, a certain coolness and humour. Still like the sets and the outfits and...Sean Connery is not that unattractive in young as I´ve ever thought. I like that is so wonderfully politically incorrect.
what I didn´t like: I didn´t understand the plot again...and fell asleep for 5min in between.

verdict: Finally seen this milestone. Still not a Bond junkie but it´s getting better. Definitely worth seeing.

borderland

Yesterday was the day...I took the train and travelled the long way into Astonishland aka the Saarland.
A small part on the left side of Germany bordering on France that can look back on a very varied and troubled history and nowadays gets often overlooked or causes silly jokes as it is so small and the dialect is quite "strong".
As for me there is hardly anything more enjoyable than sitting on a train on my own, looking out of the window while the sun is shining and losing myself in daydreams I was happy and excited when I arrived in Saarbrücken.

www.designladen.com

It is so damn close to France you hear a lot of French as soon as you leave the train and see many trains going to France. Not everyone might share my enthusiasm but for me that is highly exciting.
France! And that nearby! I have a strange affinty to borders and always want to hop forth and back just because I can. I know that this area of France is not directly known for its touristic value or overwhelming beauty but anyway. If I would live somewhere like it I would buy every single croissant and lump of cheese over there, take the opportunity to see my beloved French singers live on stage, speak perfect French...sorry, I´m digress.
To put it in a nutshell: I´m Francophile
Maybe I should blame my great grandmother (who I never met of course) who was from "Bitche" (yes, get a grip you English speakers...it´s not that funny :-))

Anyway, I arrived, got welcomed by the charming Alice (who I had met before for less than an hour at Frankfurt airport last summer). She showed me around, we walked though the busy high street to the more tranquil area towards the Basilika Sankt Johann. Some more quite charming streets on, past a theatre housed in an old firestation, along the river Saar and with a short look at the touring Stoffmarkt Holland and the fascinating state theatre built in the 1930s (if anyone knows of another theatre that has been build during the Third Reich please let me know as I find that really quite interesting) we finally settled down for a snack and a drink. But not before I had bought the worlds most amazing, huge and cheap Apfelkrapfen und a bread. Am I strange (hmm, why am I asking after all!?) but anywhere new I go I try to buy food as a souvenir for me to take home. I normally buy some local bread or cakes so I have a bit more variation on my plate at home.

It was nice to sit together and to be able to have a proper eye to eye chat. Time was flying so we wandered on to the Schloss Saarbrücken in order to join a guided tour around the castle and the casemates. The two guys in the tourist information proved useless and didn´t have a clue about anything but we found the starting point and together with another couple we started our journey through the ruins and times.

Time was still flying so after a walk towards the station and the exchange of some collected Glossybox etc. goodies (thank you again!) we parted again.

There is only one thing better than sitting on a train with anticipation - it is sitting there knowing that you had a really good day :-)
Sometimes blogging tricks you - only because you blog over different things and seem to have not an awful lot in common you worry how a meeting in the real life will go, maybe even dismiss the idea. In real life you don´t worry about that, many of our friends have at first glance very few in common with yourself I would guess and it still works.
She reads thrillers, I find them boring. She watches series I have never seen. I love to go to operas, she doesn´t. On paper we should not get along. But we do.
So I´m grateful to have met this wonderful person through the blogosphere when otherwise our paths would probably have never crossed and hope that many more meetings all over Germany or London will follow.

Thank you Alice for the lovely day!

PS: Excuse the lack of photos...I´m crap of shooting when I´m busy talking and walking.

PPS: Primark tourism is a word that should definitely make it into the dictionaries. You just wouldn´t believe the pilgrimages that I witnessed. The whole train consisted basically only of Primark customers. The whole town is filled with French people and their Primark prey And not just one bag, no...more likely 5 or 6. Madness...
