Blue Jasmine

director: Woody Allen
year: 2013
with: Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins, Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, etc.

plot: A New York socialite, deeply troubled and in denial, arrives in San Francisco to impose upon her sister. She looks a million, but isn't bringing money, peace, or love...

what I liked: The entire cast is great but Cate Blanchett is simply superb. Ever since I have seen her live on stage in London I'm deeply in love with her and she certainly doesn't disappoint here. The fact that the story seems to be closely modelled on Tennesse Williams play "A Streetcar Named Desire" made the theatre geek in me very happy and the beautiful and elegant sets and costumes (the Hermes bag!) where balm for the soul.

what I didn't like: The yellow Fendi handbag...just kidding, I'm not that flippant - I enjoyed the whole film.

verdict: Woody Allen wowed me with yet another film! The perfect balance between beauty, turmoil and reflection and a mesmerizing Cate Blanchett.
