question time 1

Talulaah started this on her blog, Miss W. picked it up and now it's my turn to show off my narcisstic tendencies. Well, if you cannot talk about yourself on your own blog where can you?!?
If you want to take part you can find the full list of questions here.

When was the last time you tried something new?
Have a look at all my posts under the tag of "project everyday" - since the beginning of the year 2014 (which feels like 3-4 weeks ago) I'm trying to do/see/taste/hear/feel at least one new thing each and every day!
So far this has been incredibly easy, my awareness has changed and now I notice how many new things happen every day and feel grateful for this.

Who do you sometimes compare yourself to?
This got me thinking as my first reaction was that I'm not comparing myself to anyone.
But then I wondered...my initial thought was comparing yourself to someone automatically means to think someone else is more beautiful/more talented/more lucky/more interesting/etc. so you downgrade yourself. That might sound horribly smug now but I'm really not doing this a lot. Billions of people have the better hair/ bake the better bread/have the better grades/etc. than me but I usually don't give a shit.
Then I suddenly thought that you can compare yourself to someone who is apparently less good at something and end up feeling superior. This might be morally totally wrong ( and/or psychologically totally right at the same time) but I'm guilty of doing this! I'm looking at someone thinking "My life is more exciting" or "I have more knowledge on this" or "My English is better" and that makes me happy (yes, you are allowed to dislike me now).
Oh yes, and I just realize I could have answered this one way simpler. I constantly compare myself to other photographer either thinking "I could have done that better and you are a pretentious and greedy imbecile" or, more often, "Damn, why should anyone look at my photos and maybe even pay for them when others create images like that"

What’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever heard someone say?
Serbian football coach Dragoslav Stepanović once said in a famous press conference "Lebbe geht weider" (life goes on) after losing a match. Even though I'm one of the least in football interested people in the world I like this one. No matter what happens...life goes on. Unless you are dead. Sounds sensible to me.

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
see above...no matter how hard the blows of fate may knock you over, life goes on.

What gets you excited about life?
Endless possibilities, plenty of opportunities and beauty. Without seeing beauty in so many things I couldn't survive. It's the energy that recharges my batteries.

What do you wish you spent more time doing five years ago?
Taking photos and being paid for them :-)

Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?
Hmm...after 13 years in school and now being an academic (don't feel like one often though) I think I'm fairly good at asking the nagging "Why?" at all possible and impossible times.
But I'm sure in other areas I'm enjoying some blissful ignorance and try to protect myself with it.
Having your head in the sand might not always be the bravest and best tactic but I can be a bit hyper-sensitive and neurotic so it works for me.
