director: Cary Joji Fukunaga
with: Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell, Judi Dench, etc.
plot: Come on, you probably have read the novel, haven't you? Jane Eyre grows up as an orphan, first with her evil minded family, later in a hardcore boarding school. After those years she finds work as a governess at Thornfield Hall and meets the owner, Mr. Rochester...and then the problems do only start...
what I liked: the dark and gloomy northern setting, the nearly abstract and horror film like music
what I didn´t like: seems stupid to dislike something about the story here as the film simply followed the book, but - there is so much evil happening to Jane that after a while I shut down and couldn´t feel any compassion - no tears, no feelings, nothing. And a shallow comment, Michael Fassbender is unfortunately not sexy...
verdict:I think the film does the novel justice, is atmospheric and immaculate but is lacking opportunity to grip the viewer and move him emotionally.
